The Mira Costa High School Drama/Tech Department is excited to announce two fall plays:  Twelve Angry Jurors and The Diviners.

First up is Twelve Angry Jurors by Reginald Rose, playing Oct. 12th-14th.  On a hot summer day after a long trial, a jury must decide whether a 19-year-old man is guilty of murdering his father. The jury votes 11-1 that the man is guilty of the crime, but laws in the United States require a unanimous vote by all 12 jurors in order to pass judgment. Tempers flare as the eleven jurors try their best to convince the 1 dissenter to come around to their side. As the evidence is re-examined, however, new uncertainties come to light, forcing everyone to truly question if there is, in fact, some measure of "reasonable doubt".  As prejudices are tested and evidence weighed, the entire jury is forced to look past the show of the courtroom to unearth the real truth.  Faced with determining one man's fate, these dozen jurors must first face themselves.

Twelve Angry Jurors performances:
Thursday, Oct. 12 at 6:30 pm
Friday, Oct. 13 at 7:30 pm
Saturday, Oct. 14 at 2 pm & 7:30 pm

Next up is The Diviners, by Jim Leonard, Jr., playing Nov. 3rd-11th.  Set in the fictional town of Zion during the Great Depression, a widowed farmer is raising his son Buddy, whose brain was damaged at age 4 during a near drowning in which his mother died trying to save him. The childlike and uncontrollable Buddy has a sweet spirit but is terrified of water, though ironically he has developed an uncanny ability to find water for his drought-besieged farm community. When a disillusioned former preacher named C.C. Showers comes to the farm seeking employment and food, a unique bond develops between the troubled but gifted Buddy and the man who represents salvation to the beleaguered townspeople. C.C. devotes himself to helping Buddy, and his efforts precipitate a startling chain of events.
